About line upon line percussion

Formed in 2009, line upon line percussion is committed to seeking new ways for percussion instruments to advance contemporary music. To date, the ensemble has commissioned and premiered a dozen new works for percussion. In 2011, the Austin-based trio released a disc of commissioned, homegrown music and premiered their award-winning project, seeing times are not hidden, a site-specific work for custom chimes. April 2013 brought the North American premiere of Hugues Dufourt’s massive, evening-length masterpiece, Erewhon. The group self-presented a three-concert series in Austin for the first time during the 2013-14 season.

In 2013 and 2014, the trio was named “Best Ensemble” by the Austin Critics’ Table and is currently part of the TCA Texas Touring Roster. The Austinist called line upon line “the premier new music percussion ensemble in Texas and the South” and the Austin American-Statesman considers the group “a riveting, always-surprising and delightful trio.”

line upon line maintains educational and outreach roles with the Austin Chamber Music Center and has performed and taught at numerous academic institutions around the United States and in England, Switzerland and Germany. November 2012 marked their first appearance at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. The group has previously performed at the Fusebox Festival, SXSW, Fast Forward Austin, the Victoria Bach Festival and the International Festival-Institute at Round Top.

About Baylor Percussion Group

The Baylor Percussion Group is a dynamic contemporary music percussion ensemble devoted to the artistic presentation of the most significant percussion works of the 20th and 21st centuries. A central focus of the ensemble is to foster relationships between composers and performers through musical collaborations and commissions. The group presents regional and world premiere performances of works by both emerging and established composers and has commissioned new music from James Wood, John Supko, and Jason Treuting. The BPG has performed at the Make Music New York Festival, the Fast Forward Austin Festival, the Menil Collection, the Round Top International Festival-Institute, the 15th Anniversary Livestrong Gala, and the Texas Music Educators Association Convention. In February 2011, the BPG released its first commercial recording on New World Records entitled Restless, Endless, Tactless – Johanna Beyer and the Birth of American Percussion Music. Jointly recorded with the Meehan/ Perkins Duo, the disc highlights some of the earliest percussion ensemble works ever written, including the entire percussion output of German-American composer Johanna Beyer. The BBC Music Magazine described the recording as “immaculately played”, doling out five out of five stars for the performance. Gramophone writes “The sound throughout is brilliant as only percussion sound can be when each of the players is also, by necessity, an expert in the use of cutting-edge technology. An engaging experience.” And Jeremy Marchant of Fanfare Magazine perhaps best sums up experience by saying “This is a must-hear for anyone remotely interested in the development of music in the past century and is strongly recommended.” The BPG’s 2014-2015 season includes performances at the Waco Cultural Arts Festival and the 2015 Baylor Percussion Symposium, featuring guest artists Glenn Kotche and the Meehan/ Perkins Duo.
