Disco Classical began on April 12th, 2012 at the Butterfly Bar, showcasing UT School of Music talent and Austin-based bands in a night fusing live dance-inspired classical music with contemporary dance tunes and dance performances. FFA decided to bring it back as a preview event for the music festival this year, featuring two performers on the FFA roster: Line Upon Line Percussion and mezzo-soprano Kathryn Findlen. This year Disco Classical is getting even more collaborative than in its first installment, featuring, among other acts, a structured improvisatory piece involving contemporary/rock music, modern dance, and visual art. The performances go in waves, so that listeners and bar-goers have a chance to relax and chat with friends and then perk up their ears for the innovative performances at the top of each hour.
