We are crazy psyched to let you know about the next Fast Forward Austin event, Amid the Noise. Going down April 30 at the 4th Tap in North Austin and featuring performances by Jason Treuting (So Percussion), Battle Trance, Kraken Quartet, Cordova Quartet, UT Austin Percussion Ensemble, and the Baylor Percussion Ensemble, this will be epic!

At the heart of the show is Jason Treuting’s Amid the Noise. Pulsating drones, ambient noise textures, and driving rhythms bind this collection of twelve short pieces for mixed percussion. The combined forces of The Kraken Quartet, UT Percussion Group, Baylor Percussion Group, and Jason Treuting will perform the work in its entirety. Check out a track from So Percussion’s 2011 recording to get a taste.

 

 

We are incredibly lucky to welcome Battle Trance to Austin where they will perform their visceral, hypnotic long-form composition, Palace of Wind. Praised as “mesmerizing” by the New York Times, an “engulfing sonic swam” by Live Eye TV, and “breathtaking” by FMDUST,  Palace of Wind is an album-length work that pushes the four saxophonists to the limit over nearly 45 minutes of hypnotic sound, intricate textures, and blisteringly fast lines. Here’s a little teaser to get you started.

Rounding off the evening are performances by The Kraken Quartet performing original music collaboratively written by the group and the Cordova Quartet playing a set of recent composition for string quartet. It’s all going down at the 4th Tap, a fantastic new brewery in North Austin with delicious beer andfood on hand throughout the evening. Yum.
