Sprocket was composed in close collaboration with metal-working artist Juan Martinez and Akropolis Reed Quintet. The percussion part was written for a mobile sound sculpture created by Juan and premiered by Zac Bru. With its crown of metal mixing bowls, pedal powered accordion accordion bellows, and mechanical glock-o-matic, this beautiful beast is a fully functional (though admittedly cumbersome) tricycle. The video above is from a performance far from pedaling range of Detroit, so the percussion part was reworked for a more traditional setup.
